You responded!

It was really great tonight to have gotten 2 comments from good friends who read my baby blog!
Thanks, guys. Please keep them coming.
After reading some more of my textbook, Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms by Will Richardson, I realized I could make the URL for Wikipedia, I had included in my last post, come alive! So I went back to "edit" and did it - easy as pie.
It was a baby step for sure, but that's what I am going for right now.
If anyone is interested in starting their own blog, try Blogger (www.blogger.com).
Ha- this time I can make it live the first time for your convenience. I am heady with cyberpower! :-)
Hope some of you will jump into the Blogosphere with me!

Adding the word "Learns" to my Blog name

It's now: "Miss Lorraine" lives/learns on!

I have found out from my readings that a blog is not supposed to be just a journal, although it can also serve that purpose.

My purpose in writing this blog is to invite any of you who would like to come along on my Learning Adventure into the world of UB, Library School and specifically into the Cyberspace World of Blogs.

  • I was wondering how many of you have blogs?... or
  • Have read someone else's blog? I know some of you read the Library blog during Summer Reading Program to find the clues about where Detective Ike LaRue was hanging out that week.... or

  • Really don't get it at all...

In a real blog, people share their thoughts, but also share links to related information. Other people respond and thereby add to the body of collective knowledge, which was cited as doubling every 18 months back in 1999 (Olofson). Can you imagine what it must be today?? Does anyone out there know?

Because I love words, I will throw in an extra definition- Have you heard the word "wiki" being tossed around? WIKI comes from the Hawaiian ( ahh, Hawaii- don't you wish we were all there right now?) word- "wiki-wiki" which means- quick-such as in Wikipedia- a collaborative online encyclopedia that is more complete and updated on some subjects, such as Katrina and the Tsunami, than the news was because so many people contributed information to it. Check it out!
www.wikipedia.org -it's free with millions of articles contributed collaboratively using Wiki (quick- easy to write- no knowledge of HTML code needed) software, in dozens of languages.

If you respond to my blog, I will try my best to answer your questions and we can learn together. I know many of you young moms are way ahead of me already, so I appreciate your advice and experiences. I will especially appreciate your input on what your kids are doing vis a vis all these new Web2.0 applications, since the whole point of this is to see how these technologies can be used to help further learning and prepare our students (and us) to deal with this Information Explosion.

Hope to see you all in Bloggerspace!

"Miss Lorraine" re-surfaces!

Hi Dear Friends,

Since leaving the Lewiston Public Library, I have had a wonderful December, which was spent , in large part, recuperating from the precipitating events, trying to put my life back together again, and building a new one being a student at my Alma Mater: The Department of Library Science at UB. It is great to be back on campus again!
I am earning my School Library Media Specialist certification-the new name for school librarian-which includes NYS teaching certification and learning new skills- hence, The Blog!

December ended with my entire family coming for Christmas- 8 adults, 6 dogs and 2 kids! Every room and couch and blowup bed in our log cabin was filled and I could not have been happier.

This month I am starting to do school media center observations, so I hope our paths will cross as I visit Lew-Port and other local schools.

I miss you and your children very, very much. We had a lot of fun, didn't we? I so appreciate all your efforts in my behalf and all the love you poured out to me I am truly rich and very blessed in your friendships. Please stay in touch. I carry you in my heart and will always be....

Your "Miss Lorraine"
